Stewart Goes Walkies is delighted to have another contribution from our friend and reader, Sasha Haldane. Sasha’s earlier contribution SPIDER WALKS – A contribution by Sasha Haldane may be seen here.
And here is Part Two:
For those who saw my last guest post (writes Sasha), I have continued my insect walks on a regular basis as there is always something to find, even in the winter months. But with spring springing away there is even more out there – lots of new hatchings of stink bugs and mantids and plenty of dragonflies back in the streams and marshes. So, I have been all over Hong Kong recording the truly amazing biodiversity that we have.
Please, if you do want to go out and take photos make sure you take lots of water, hats and snacks as the weather heats up. And take photos of the insects in situ – you will see from my shots I take them as I find them – they stay where they are even if it means the backgrounds of railings are a bit boring because I want to cause as little disturbance as possible.
I’m always fearful of the possibility that all these amazing things will disappear due to the fact that there are huge new developments planned in sensitive bio-diverse areas. Sadly there is a lack of proper management of the country parks. I sincerely urge you all to advocate for our biodiversity whenever you get the chance. Just this selection of 20 photos should show what amazing small life we have here!
The Techy Stuff
I also recently bought a new camera and have been on a huge learning journey with it – for those interested, the specs are as follows:
Olympus E-M 5iii, Zuiko 60mm lens, Godox V350 flash, Cygnustech diffuser, and on some photos, I used a Raynox DCR250 magnifying lens.

We are very grateful to Sasha for allowing us to post these magnificent photos. We believe that they are an indication of Sasha’s dedication. We would also like to take this opportunity of encouraging our readers to respect nature and the environment, which is sadly disappearing at an alarming rate.
